The incidents took place in New Haven on Monday, Sept. 4 beginning around 9:30 p.m. and running into early Tuesday, Sept. 5.
The first incident took place on Woosley Street, where New Haven officers responded to a report of a shooting, said Capt. Rose Dell of the New Haven Police.
When officers arrived they discovered a crime scene, and moments later received word that a gunshot victim had been dropped off at Yale New Haven Hospital, Dell said.
Dell said the victim, who had been shot by an occupant of another vehicle, recounted a heated exchange that escalated into violence. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
A short time later, around 10:45 p.m., while NHPD officers were at Yale New Haven Hospital for an unrelated incident, a second gunshot victim walked into the facility, Dell said. The victim said he had been lured to the area of Chapel Street and Ella T. Grasso Boulevard by a person he had met online. Once there, an unidentified male attempted to rob him, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries.
The third incident took place on Tuesday, Sept. 5 around 1:25 a.m. when the department received a ShotSpotter activation indicating five rounds had been fired on Winthrop Avenue.
Soon after, multiple 911 callers reported a person shot in the 400 block of Winthrop Avenue. Responding officers discovered Leron Vaughn, age 29, of New Haven, suffering from a gunshot wound behind a white Infinity, Dell said.
"Despite immediate medical attention, Vaughn succumbed to his injuries at Yale New Haven Hospital," she said.
Witnesses reported observing two "suspicious" individuals fleeing the scene, running northbound on Winthrop Avenue. A K9 search was conducted, but it yielded no significant leads, Dell added.
